After Supreme Court ruling, legislators hear pleas to save 'historical horse racing'
The president of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association told lawmakers Monday that without action from the Kentucky General Assembly, a recent state Supreme Court ruling on pari-mutuel wagering will "devastate horse racing" in the state and could cause Kentucky to "lose our status of as horse capital of the world." "Without (Historical Horse Racing), we will see a mass exodus of horses from our racetracks and farms alike," Braxton Lynch said. "It would mean empty barns, empty fields, empty jobs and less tax revenue. The existence of Turfway Park and winter racing in Kentucky would be at risk."
