Amwest withdraws 2019 Sports Creek license application

The new owner of Sports Creek Raceway says it will withdraw its application to bring live and simulcast thoroughbred racing back to Michigan in 2019. AmRace & Sports LLC issued a news release Friday, Jan. 25, announcing the decision and committing to a new timeline to make the track operational in 2020. MLive-The Flint Journal reported last week that AmRace had no current plans to reopen Sports Creek this year despite having been granted a conditional license by the Michigan Gaming Control Board in September. The company acquired Sports Creek in mid-December and has started renovation work at the track, which has been closed for four years. But negotiations over the sale took longer than expected, and Gov. Rick Snyder vetoed legislation before leaving office last month that would have allowed for cell phone [ADW] wagering.
