Buyer plans to resume betting, horse racing at Sports Creek Raceway

Horse racing and betting may be returning to Sports Creek Raceway next year. Amwest and AmRace & Sports LLC announced plans on Thursday to buy the defunct horse racing track west of Swartz Creek pending approval from the Michigan Gaming Control Board. The new owner hopes to close the deal by Nov. 1, according to the Michigan Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protection Association If approved, the track would open a simulcasting facility with live betting on horse races elsewhere in the country on Jan. 1. Work would begin on rehabilitating the live racing surface and facilities when weather allows this winter.
