Fonner Park announcer Steve Anderson’s job isn’t always easy. Not when he has names like Chayil, Allthatandzensome, Toinfinitynbeyond, Eltacoguapo and — a personal favorite, Zyxyz — to pronounce. So Anderson can appreciate a name like Doug. So can Doug Schmuecker, and trainer Mavin Johnson. Doug is a 12-year-old gelding bred and owned by Schmuecker and Johnson and named after Schmuecker. He’s become somewhat of a fan favorite at Fonner Park, partly because he’s just been running there for so long.
