    Gaming Bill Signed: Tracks May Now Host Casino-Style Games

Pritzker today signed Senate Bill 690, the gaming legislation recently approved by legislators, and this state’s tracks now have the authority to host slot machines and other casino-style games for the purpose of generating additional revenue to boost purses.

    Report confirms Ellis Park to be sold to New Mexico company

    HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - A new report has confirmed Ellis Park will be sold to a New Mexico company. The Pressbox reports that a source close to the situation says on June 18th the Kentucky Racing Commission may hear and consider the sale of Ellis Park and all of its affiliated property in Henderson to the Laguna Development Corporation, located near Albuquerque, NM.

    Ellis Park released artist renditions on Friday showing what’s coming to “the new and improved Ellis Park.” Photos posted on Ellis Park’s Facebook page show changes to the outside of the track that would be visible from the road.

    Arlington's State-Bred Races Now Open To Arkansas- And Louisiana-Breds

    For the first time a trio of State Bred horses will be able to compete against each-other at Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, Ill. Racing Secretary Chris Polzin has begun carding races that will include Louisiana-bred, Illinois-bred and Arkansas-bred horses.

    Governor Kim Reynolds Signs Iowa Sports Betting Bill

    After three weeks of waiting, Iowa became the tenth state to allow full-scale betting as Governor Kim Reynolds signed a measure making wagering legal on pro and college sports. Citing the need to squash black market gambling inside the state, Gov. Reynolds signed the popular legislation on Monday, May 15th.

    Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission works to expedite sports betting

    Iowa is one of eleven states to legalize sports betting since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last year, that a federal law dating back to 1992 barring state participation, was unconstitutional. Rules governing sports betting still must be worked out by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. A public hearing on those rules will be held before Iowa casino's cash any winning tickets. IRGC member Jeff Lamberti says he expects wagering to begin late this summer.

    Louisville Official Says Future City Derby Spending Likely To Decrease

    Louisville’s economic development chief Mary Ellen Wiederwohl told members of the Metro Council’s budget committee on Monday that the administration had 13 guests this year who were eyeing Louisville as a place to do business. But future spending on the event is likely to go down. Council members are in the process of determining how to cut more than $25 million from next fiscal year’s budget amid rising employee health care and pension costs.

    Take a trip to Churchill Downs and you'll hear more than thundering hooves and cheering crowds. The man cutting through all that noise clutter is Travis Stone, the track announcer. The 35-year-old was announced as Churchill's new announcer in December, 2014 replacing Larry Collmus who left after one year to call races for the New York Racing Association and NBC's coverage of the Kentucky Derby.
