The owners of Sports Creek Raceway have asked the state for licenses that would allow them to host simulcast horse racing year-round and live thoroughbred racing 16 weekends in 2020. The applications from AmRace & Sports LLC were filed with the Michigan Gaming Control Board Aug. 29, and requested by MLive-The Flint Journal through the Freedom of Information Act. AmRace, which purchased Sports Creek late in 2018, has said it’s continuing to work toward changes in state law that would make it easier to wager on horse racing through the track, and hasn’t made a final commitment to reopening next year even if its licenses are granted.
